General Class Policies
-
All class participants (including club members) are required to pre-register for classes they wish to attend.
-
Most class sessions will begin with a scheduled individual dog and handler orientation. This allows handlers/dogs to familiarize with the class setting and the class instructor without distraction. Orientation appointments are assigned during confirmation of class placement.
-
Participants will normally be limited to one dog per night per class. Dogs may alternate on different nights within class sessions. Similarly, one handler should train the dog each class night. Handlers may alternate different nights within the class session. Family members are welcome to attend and watch.
-
Handlers under the age of 18 require prior approval of the MLOTC Director of Obedience (or Agility) Training and class instructor.
-
Dogs need to be current on Distemper / Parvo and Rabies vaccinations. Bordatella is recommended, but not required. Vaccination documentation is required during the registration process for all classes.
-
Dogs participating in any MLOTC speedway or agility class must be in a crate when not in the ring/on course. If a dog cannot be crated, it must be otherwise fully, safely contained either working out of the handler's vehicle or in a covered and staked exercise pen.
-
The volunteer instructors of MLOTC, in most cases, do not have formal education in canine behavior, body language, reactivity or aggression. We reserve the right to deny entry into or remove from our classes any dog/handler team we determine may not be best served within a group class setting. Once admitted to a group class, it is each handler’s responsibility to be vigilant in managing their own dog(s) behavior and to maintain awareness of other animals and humans in close proximity (who may or may not be participating in club activities). For the safety of all dogs and humans on the training premises, any dog/handler that creates unnecessary disturbances or repeatedly engages in unsafe or disruptive behavior may be asked to leave the training site and forfeit participation in class. Should it be necessary for a dog/handler to be removed, we will do our best to refer elsewhere for more appropriate assistance. Anyone participating in a class who observes concerning behavior should report it to the class instructor. MLOTC members who observe concerning behavior should report based on the club’s Safe Conduct Policy.
